Kids need a safe place where they can experience childhood. School has been that supportive learning environment but for many, that place no longer exists.
Now, it's up to the family to recreate that space, which is going to be different for every household. Every child has the right to a quality education. Now is the time to meet the challenge of putting resources where they do the most good. This is more than a school challenge - this is also a neighborhood challenge, a family challenge, a child's challenge.
Michiganders are strong. We win when everyone comes together to solve the problem, when we trust the experts, and when we invest in humanity. As we travel on this journey, let's not lose sight of the strength in our diversity. We will learn together: children, parents, and teachers, black, white, and brown, so that we all can learn, grow, and thrive.
